Green Oasis
Living in this urban jungle means us city folks may not have the luxury or the privilege of being around greenery. After being surrounded by so much concrete, it is always refreshing to be around some beautiful green plants in our homes and work places. In this segment, we will take a look at a few of them that are super easy to manage and make a great addition to any home and work place.
Succulents, cactuses and pothos are great for the indoors because they grow well in low light and adds elegance to any household
SUCCULENTS
Succulents make great house plants because it can survive the dry environment due to their fleshy leaves, thick stems and enlarged roots that allow them to retain water. So chances of you dehydrating this sturdy plant are very low. Their distinct leaf shapes give them striking textures that transform this beautiful plant into a living sculpture that brings a touch of elegance into your home.
These beauties are relatively easy to care for. Firstly, make sure that the containers that will hold the plant have a good drainage, i.e. a small hole at the bottom, because the last thing you want to do is drown your succulent. Secondly, mix a bit of gravel or small rocks or sand because those will help the soil not retain any extra water making the soil soggy. And an added bonus, those rocks will add to the aesthetics of a gorgeous plant. Next, plant your potted plant next to a window or any place that has great indirect light and watch those babies blossom. Don’t forget to water them only when the leaves are looking a bit dry.
ALOE VERA
Aloe Vera, a sturdy plant that grows well indoors has many health benefits. This plant doesn’t require a lot of watering, but over watering may cause the roots to rot. So to prevent that from happening, plant them in a pot with god drainage and only water when needed. Place them in your balcony or near a window that allows for bright light to shine on this charming plant. The clear, gooey inside of this plant is edible, and great for your skin. Use the leaves to create your own health drink or to incorporate the gel into your skin care. This plant brings with it both beauty and function.
CACTUS
Your best option, if you do not possess the green thumb is to adopt a cactus. These prickly beauties are nearly indestructible. Just plant them in pretty pot and leave them by a window and water very rarely. These will grow without any extra assistance.
PRIVACY PLANTS
Privacy plants are perfect for the work place. The tall, yet leafy plants are super easy to take care of. The concrete planters allow for water retention, meaning that you don’t have to worry too much about watering them. Not only do these plants help to block the glare of the sun, they also helps to cool the offices on the other side of the glass. These alluring plants offer a bright spot to soothe the weary soul of the office worker.
In the hustle and bustle of our daily lives, living in this concrete jungle constantly being surrounded by nonliving beings, brining in these beautiful green plants into our home and work places not only brightens up our living spaces, but it also acts as a oasis of calm, recharging and refreshing the soul.
