Right to the City
To mark International Women’s Day, the EU Delegation to Bangladesh organized a day-long mural painting public-event on 6th March 2021. Young emerging female artists painted on the outside walls of the EU Delegation, sharing inspiring messages on womanhood. This was intended to provide women artists with a bigger platform to exhibit their works and to claim their rights to the city by enhancing their visibility. They worked on the collaborative art project under the direction of two senior artists Fareha Zeba and Kanak Chanpa Chakma.
The young women artists are: Nuzhat Tabassum, Kazi Istela Imam, Easmut Ara Mitu, Mahmuda Akter Lutfa, Surovi Akter, Manashi Banik, Saria Ahmed, Saiqa Chowdhury, Dibarah Mahboob, Nipa Nipobithi Das, Laila Fazal, Papia Sarwar Dithi, Mondrila Modhurima, Akhinoor Binte Ali and Zannat Keya. Alongside, to strengthen the diversity of the event, three young artists joined from outside the capital, Dhaka: Avlee Chakma, Ruposhree Hajong and Atia Maibam.
The wall murals were inaugurated on the the 8th March, by the Head of the EU Delegation to Bangladesh, Rensje Teerink, at the presence of journalists, the delegation staff and the public.
