Blending Worlds: Reality, Fantasy & Dilemma
From May 3rd to 17th, Uttara’s Galleri Kaya presents ‘Reality, Fantasy & Dilemma,’ Chandra Shekhar’s first solo exhibition in nearly 25 years. The exhibition features Shekhar’s unique perspective on art and its inspirations.
The ‘Reality’ theme draws from Shekhar’s everyday life and personal experiences, capturing authenticity and sincerity. ‘Fantasy’ originates from his work in children’s book illustration and his interfaith marriage, blending Hindu and Islamic influences. This unique mix allows Shekhar to create fantastical worlds that align with life’s realities.
The ‘Dilemma’ theme arises from the fusion of Western and Oriental influences in Shekhar’s art, presenting a compelling contrast. Goutam Chakraborty, founder of Galleri Kaya, encouraged Shekhar to retain his artworks for a year rather than selling them immediately. This led to a collection specifically created and stored over the past 12 to 18 months, with some pieces from previous years. The exhibition features notable works such as ‘Posture–4,’ ‘Stories of my time–4,’ and ‘Model–3.’
Shekhar’s art shows great versatility, moving easily through different styles like realism, surrealism, abstract impressionism, and neo-expressionism. He pays close attention to detail in every piece, whether on canvas or paper, creating striking textures and images.
In Shekhar’s artwork, mysterious and detached beings live in a mystical setting. This environment combines elements of folklore, fantasy, and reality, resulting in a rich, haunting, and absorbing experience.
