Amlan Kusum Debnath, a student from MIST, has crafted an innovative conservation plan for the historic Mohini Mill in Kushtia. Once a busy textile factory, the mill stands as a powerful symbol of Bangladesh’s industrial heritage. Over time, however, it has fallen into neglect, with only the echoes of its vibrant past remaining. This project is guided by Associate Prof. Mohammad Sazzad Hossain. It is mentored by Assistant Professors Dr. Syeda Jafrina Nancy, Shafinaz Sameen, and Kazi Zayed Titumir from the Department of Architecture at MIST. Their collective efforts aim to breathe new life into the mill, transforming it into a space that honors its history while serving the community in a modern context.
The plan centers on preserving the mill’s architectural integrity, ensuring that the beautiful brick facades and industrial design details are carefully documented and reinforced. The goal is not just to protect the building, but to use it as a canvas for the future. This balance between maintaining the mill’s historical charm and adapting it for new purposes is a key feature of the proposal. It allows the mill to continue telling its story while also playing an active role in the lives of those who will use it moving forward.
