The New Mod Moolicious

Dhaka being the pivot of modern-day restaurants, fast-food shops, cafés, and lounges, was missing a café that solely sold milkshakes, that too, a wide range of it. Unsure if it could make a place in the heart of Dhakaites by paving its way with a very specific product; the owners went ahead with their passion after year-long planning and eventually made their place. Now, thriving at the hub of foodies’ heaven, Banani 11, is this minuscule outlet, Moolicious.

Moolicious boasts a 450 sqft space with a seating capacity of approximately twelve people. The place radiates a mid-century modern aura with the mid-century side chairs, bar stools, and floating wall shelves, which further complements the exposed grey concrete wall. The materials primarily used for the interior are wood and glass to give it a neat and sleek look. Keeping black as the primary colour, the design incorporates blue, brown and grey with it. While black, brown and grey provide a cosy atmosphere, the blue colour adds life to it! Taking it up a notch, the vibrant yellow posters add a retro twist to the theme.

What makes the outlet entrancing is its simplicity, which captivates the eye of every passer-by on the street of Banani 11.

Interior is an integral part of cafés in Dhaka city, and in today’s day and age, it being Instagram-able is a pre-requisite. As for Moolicious, no architect or designer had a hand behind the project. Nonetheless, the place has been assembled with self-interest and love. Every nook and corner has been designed with everyone’s ideas, inspirations that were taken from the internet, and personal experiences, which were all put together. “We believe in the ‘less is more’ concept and hence the interior speaks for itself”, says Mufaddal Kaiyum, one of the owners.

Moolicious is owned by four childhood friends, Mustafa Shoeb, Mufaddal Kaiyum, Hamza Saria and Mohammed Fakhri. While they have other establishments for bread and butter, Moolicious is their brainchild born out of sheer fervour to bring something novel to Bangladesh. “We provide glass bottles with a Moolicious logo and a cute message on the bottle lid, which has attracted many customers as you are allowed to take it with you as a token of love from us”, says Mustafa Shoeb.

At Moolicious, they serve a wide range of milkshakes that is sure to please the taste buds of all kinds of people, starting from the classic flavours, which are chocolate, vanilla and strawberry to the more exclusive ones such as Oreo mint, blueberry cheesecake, etc. However, out of these, one of the most loved flavours has been Belgium chocolate beside the wide range of highly appreciated cheesecake flavours. One cannot return from Moolicious with an empty hand but be tempted to try at least one out of their many unique flavours of milkshake.
