Architect S.M. Nazimuddin Payel

  1. What is your opinion about the architecture scene of Bangladesh right now?

Our architectural practice has started toddling with the hands of Architect Muzharul Islam and now in its youth by the dedicated efforts of the current leaders of the field. We are observing a significant development in last two decades by the good practices with several excellent projects. Not only is that, our marked footprints are now evident in the international arena through the concurrent winning of prestigious awards. Our architectural practice already conceived a good blending of its own identity and the contemporary state of art and technology.

  1. What according to you is the future of architecture in Bangladesh?

Good practices in architectural field of Bangladesh have provided a good platform where the young architects are also doing well. Institute of architects Bangladesh (IAB) has already arranged several national competitions in Architectural projects as well as organized many award programmes for architects, which has positively encouraged young architects to work with more enthusiasm and visionary. Besides, a mammoth of development opportunity has opened many new avenues for the architects. I see a bright future of architecture in Bangladesh, no doubt.

  1. A piece of advice for young architects who want to build a career in this field.

Fields for architects are expanding in volume and diversity. And these widely diverse fields are welcoming new spirits. So for the young architects, I’d like to say that it is now the time to focus on the avenue where they want to mark their footprints. I encourage the young practitioners to go outside the established metropolis with an intention to develop good practices in other developing cities throughout the country. We also would work to reach the marginalized communities through ensuring architecture for all.

  1. A quote that you swear by

Architecture should be perceived in a holistic view. It has certain power and one should be dedicated while practicing to understand its inner supremacy.
