Inside Story

Architect Mohammad Ali Naqi

What is your opinion about the architecture scene of Bangladesh right now?

The architecture scene at the moment has a lot of new ideas and there are a lot of Bangladeshi architects working nationally and abroad with quite remarkable success. Some of them have won international awards, the highest honors in the architectural field. So the practice of architecture in this country is developing and has a bright future that we can look forward to.

What according to you is the future of the architecture scene in Bangladesh?

With so many new architecture schools that came up in the last 10 years, offer s a bright open future for architecture in this country.

These institutions are privately funded, which allows them more freedom to experiment with new ideas and bring the best out of these upcoming new architects. These schools are very attached to the professional practice; there is a good flow between them.

A piece of advice for the young architect who wants to build a career in this field.

My advice to them would be to have a strong discipline regarding their work, and to make sure that these young architects spend anywhere from 3 to 6 years working under a master architect in order to be the best themselves. Coming to work on time, doing the work with sincerity will help them to go further in this profession.
