Instinctive Fusion
From July 12 to 21, 2024, Bhumi Gallery in the capital’s Lalmatia district hosts “Instinct + Organic,” a unique exhibition that explores the raw impulses driving human creativity and the natural elements shaping our world. Featuring a diverse group of artists, this show celebrates the interaction between instinctual human emotions and organic materials.
Curated by Tarun Ghosh, the exhibition highlights the use of organic powders and charcoal—an ancient art medium known for its dramatic effects. His initiative allows artists to explore and transform these traditional materials into contemporary expressions. The gallery space also becomes a lively performance area where artists engage in traditional techniques, adding an energetic layer to the exhibition.
The displayed works reflect a broad range of themes. Some pieces capture the energetic essence of urban life, focusing on the interplay of light and shadow within cityscapes. These artworks offer vivid portrayals of the city’s moods and architectural forms. In contrast, other pieces delve into serene, ethereal landscapes, using pigments in their raw, powdered state to evoke a sense of natural solitude and memory.
Artists, including Javed Jalil, merge charcoal with modern paints, creating a dialogue between the ancient and the contemporary. The show also features traditional dyes and inks, adding texture and historical depth to the artworks. This combination of materials creates a rich mosaic that blends different worlds and times into a unified narrative.
Overall, “Instinct + Organic” invites viewers to experience a spectrum of artistic responses, from tactile realism to impulsive rawness, connecting ancient practices with contemporary perspectives.
