Mahedy Habib Chowdhury, an interior designer by passion, has a keen eye for all the finer things in life. Not simply does he have an exceptional taste in interior designing, he assures his furniture to be of top-notch quality. Inclining towards contemporary design, Mahedy’s works are relatable in today’s time.
In his late teen years, Mahedy realized the need for having the interior of his house designed a certain way. He had an urge to modify it to his taste. His journey started with designing the furniture of his house. Then gradually it led to designing for relatives as well.
In this day and age, where exposure from social media is the key,
Mahedy rose to fame through word of mouth. His exquisitely designed interior furnishing, customized to perfection, spoke for itself.
“Clients with taste at par with me, come to me. They are aware of the kind of designs I make; hence, it always works out well,” says Mahedy.
Mahedy is a self-made, self-taught man and he stresses on the fact that, “Creativity cannot be taught. It has to be within you.” He indulges in the enjoyment of creation; furniture designing is a process, and he dives passionately into it, to bring innovation to the table. What Mahedy crafts are bespoke, tailored home furnishings that are not meant to be commercially addressed on a large scale by the mass market. His client base is niche, and he primarily designs residences.
Staying up-to-date is the key factor to any designing field. Therefore, moving with time, Mahedy has adopted trending designs. He specializes in European interior design, for instance French Country design and Scandinavian design, which is currently the desired theme in the market. Personally, he prefers a minimalistic approach to adorning a home. Overuse of texture and patterns, a spread of bright bold colours, traditional designs, aren’t the kind of elements he resonates with.
When inquired about the key factor of making furniture,
Mahedy expressed, “Form and the sense of measurement is the core of furniture making. As you’d often see in commercial places, the design may seem fashionable, but got the proportion all wrong; hence, it doesn’t quite make it out there.”
Mahedy designed almost every product of his home, and painted a monumental painting to complement the furnishings. Every year or two, he changes the setup of his interior to a different theme of his preference. Mahedy never plans on going commercially big; however, he hopes to establish a boutique furniture store soon.
