- What is your opinion about the architecture scene of Bangladesh right now?
Our present Architectural expression does not reflect our place and culture. Climate provides us breeze and sun light and by careful orientation of building plan it is possible to utilize this nature’s bounty to create healthy and comfortable space for living. When I look at buildings in Dhaka, it pains me to see that we are solving somebody else’s culture and climate in the rendition of our buildings design.
- What according to you is the future of architecture in Bangladesh?
Our future is in the creation of architecture which is sustainable in terms of environmental solution and use of material having low embedded energy. - A piece of advice for young architects who want to build a career in this field
Future of architecture is hinged on what constitute sustainable architecture – an architectural footprint that trod carefully in nature.
About Architect
Bashirul Haq is the Principal Architect of Bashirul Haq & Associates Ltd. He completed his Bachelor of Architecture from National College of Arts, Lahore, Pakistan in 1964. Upon receiving ′John Heimrich Tuition, Scholarship′ and Teaching Assistantship at University of New Mexico, US in 1971, Haq completed his Master of Architecture from the university in 1975. His refusal to work in US to establish own practice in Dhaka is still talked about as young graduates take it as an inspiration. His works have been critically acclaimed for sensible and environment-responsive architectural style.
