Pastel Perfection – Jerry Bees
Text by KN Deya
Little snatches of pastel pink and mint green beacons you even before you have set foot inside Jerry Bees, a dessert shop on Banani Road 11. Aside from the sweet taste of cakes and cream, the shop also serves up the sweetest aesthetics.
As a dessert shop, Jerry Bees keeps the look simple and bright, but not garish. The simply coloured walls offer a suitable backdrop for the furniture, which add another layer of sweetness with their gentle colours. Aside from the seating arrangement, the shop’s interior also features clear, simple cake cases that hold their most beautiful decorations- cakes! The contents of these cake cases constantly change, but they always compliment the mild decor.
Going against the ongoing trend of cramming a space full of ostentatious and often mismatched art deco pieces, Jerry Bees opts for seating arrangements with rounded edges and a floral, Victorian touch. The subtle use of gold and floral motifs over the pastel colours creates a harmony with the overall decor.
The outdoor seating space features similar seating arrangements, but in the earthy tones of rattan tables and chairs that promise a good time.
The use of greenery in the space is economical and tasteful. The plants and flowers, both artificial and live, are not the main focus but are an accessory, as they should be. A dainty gold chandelier offers variety in the decor but is certainly outdone by the ceiling itself, modelled to look like a night sky with dotting lights like stars with flowers neatly hung from it.
It is difficult to pick out one superior decor element above the others in this humble little nook. It could be the seating arrangements themselves. It could be the artfully decorated cake cases.
It could be the elegant pastel flowers that jump out against the night-dark ceiling. Certainly, the simple and clean design of Jerry Bees provide many delights to a visitor, and for that, it is our favourite neat nook of the month.
